We are a home for small poems, prose, and reflections.
What We Publish
Poetry
Per submission-
- Haiku (1-5) or
- Senryu (1-5) or
- Tanka (1-5) or
- Micro poetry(1-3)
[a micro poem could be as small as a breath, from one line to expand to 1- 8 lines.]
We don’t strictly adhere to 5-7-5 syllable count but the true essence of Haiku and Tanka poetry is what we are looking for.
Kigo as per season is especially encouraged.
Prose
- Short essays
- Literary reflections
- Book reviews
📏 Prose length: preferably 200–500 words
Submissions in English and Hindi are warmly encouraged in Prose section.
Submission Window: 1st Feb – 10th Feb 2026

For this issue, a mix of haiku, senryu, tanka, micro poem submission is allowed but it should not exceed more than 5 pieces.
This is our inaugural issue, and we’re excited to read your work.
Submission Guidelines
- Submissions are free
- Submit original, unpublished work only
- Simultaneous submissions are acceptable, but please inform us if your work is accepted elsewhere
- To help us read with care, we ask that submissions be made to one category at a time.
- Please include a short third-person bio (2–3 lines)

📝Poem(s) in the body of email, along with your name, country and a short bio (2-3 lines) with a small declaration mentioned below.
📝Remember to –
- Paste your work in the body of email. Attachments will not be opened.
- Include your name, country and short author bio as you’d like us to use if your poem is published.
- Any notes for the editor.
- And a small declaration at the end. “I, your name, confirm that this submission is my original work and I grant The Bougainvillea Journal the right to publish it.”
- Review the submission guidelines and disclaimers before clicking Submit.
- You retain full rights to your work. By submitting, you grant us the right to publish your poem, with full credit given to you.
What We Look For
We value:
- Sincerity and authenticity
- A compassionate way of seeing life
- Attention to nature, silence, daily moments, and the inner world
- Writing that feels calm, reflective, and emotionally honest
- We welcome only original human-written work. Submissions created using AI tools will not be accepted.
We are less interested in perfection and more drawn to depth, presence and clarity.
We do not publish political advocacy, explicit adult content, religious proselytizing, or violent/harmful material.
Any submission that violates these guidelines may result in future submissions being declined or banned.
Response Time
We are a small journal.
Please allow 2–4 weeks for a response. If you do not hear back within this time, feel free to follow up gently.
Rights
- Writers retain full copyright of their work
- By submitting, you grant us the right to publish your work on our platform with due credit
- All submissions must be original work.
Plagiarism or copied content will be declined and may result in a ban. - Editors reserve the right to edit for clarity and format, request revisions, or decline submissions at their discretion.
- Our editorial team reviews submissions carefully. However, we cannot be held liable for plagiarized content that is not identified during review. The responsibility for originality lies with the contributor.
