Editor’s Note – Issue 3

Dear Poets and Readers
Welcome to the Bougainvillea Journal🌸 issue 03.
As we are almost at the year’s end, with the onset of winter, the days are shorter and the nights are long. I hope this autumn/winter issue will be your happy reading escape.
With the themes of fog, harvest, chrysanthemums, and cold nights, this issue is enriched with meaningful writing. Each poem brings its own beauty, depth, and perspective.
Chrysanthemums, too, bring with them a fascinating range of meanings across cultures. They symbolize longevity, nobility, resilience, autumn, they are also used in religious ceremonies as well as being associated with grief and mourning. Different meanings, different poems, yet the same profoundness in writing.
Perhaps that’s the beauty of poetry as it allows us to wander the moors of our own unfamiliar emotions, and yet discover and find something of meaning.
With the additional theme of The Wandering Artist, some poems delve into profound emotions such as fear and loss, while others delightfully celebrate the simple joys of everyday life, from cosy indoor settings to little moments of comfort and happiness.
This issue also features some wonderful literary reflections. Sreelekha Chatterjee takes us on a warm, nostalgic journey through her atmospheric write while through an insightful piece, Chen-ou Liu explores the fascinating world of meta haiku.
The issue also includes two book reviews, one written by me and another by Geethanjali Rajan, featuring the beautiful books by two wonderful, inspiring poets of our community, Bruce H. Feingold and Dr. Pravat Kumar Padhy. My heartfelt congratulations to both!
And, as always, my sincere thanks to each one of you for the love, kindness, and support you have shown throughout this journey. Your encouragement and contributions have made each issue special ! And I am truly grateful to have shared this journey with you.
A special thank you, too, for the love and warmth you extended to our debut artist, Haripriya, in the previous issue. She is more than elated to be part of our little world once again.
Wishing you all a wonderful festive season ahead, filled with warmth, happiness, and many moments of joy.✨
To those celebrating, a very happy Diwali! May the festival of lights bring joy, peace, and prosperity to all. 🪔
